I love foreign films and can "hang with" very slow-paced, character-driven drama (The Scent of Green Papaya is one of my favorite movies of all time), but this was just beyond the pale. The acting was below mediocre, and the pace is unbearably slow. I don't think there is even music, at least not through much of it. Just not much going on here, I'm afraid. The acting was over-the-top, the dubbing did not fit the characters, and if you had watched the first Demons then you already was this one. In this genre if a formula works then studios tend the carbon-copy it. While there were some new concepts in it that I hadn't actually been exposed to (basically the idea that Jesus might have been completely fictitious rather than a historical character), what I really got out of this film was the irreparable damage done to the narrator by his fundamentalist Christian upbringing. In a way, it felt like he was too close to the subject to properly analyze the subject. People are mesmerized by her physical beauty which contributed to her getting the connections with influentual people in artistic social circles that led to her introduction to English royalty. Friends from royal connections and the artistic social community eventually helped her establish an acting career to support herself. She gives birth to an illegitimate child by one of her royal lovers. She was compelled to remain with a husband who she no longer loved. Even though haven't seen the last part of this film, I have given it 5 stars because the actors, in my opinion are very good, the constume designs are fantastic and the film was consistently interesting as well as entertaining.
