Laura Branigan stars as Kate Lawrence in this insipid and cliche-ridden romantic comedy. Kate is a singer who longs to be taken seriously as an actress. Despite the misgivings of her agent, she flies to Melbourne to read for a part in a play. Kate gets the part but is grilled by film critic Robert Landau (Michael Aitkens) at a press conference. Hate for Robert turns to love until he writes an unflattering review of her performance in the play. When Kate lands a job in a Broadway play, she leaves Australia hoping never to see Robert again. He hops a plane to New York to surprise her after her performance, waiting backstage to announce his love for her. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi

The remote planet Ordessa is the site of conflict between android military police and human underlings in this undistinguished sci-fi film from Roger Christian, later released under the title Starship. Lorca (John Tarrant) leads the human inhabitants, and the evil Jowitt (Ralph Coterill) is his nemesis, along with some other baddies that have to be foiled before the nasty androids can be conquered. Aided by the friendly 'droid "Kid," (Deep Roy), victory is certainly inevitable. A few moments of tense, hand-to-hand combat enliven the story here and there, as does the enthusiastic soundtrack. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

Copying ideas from The Gods Must Be Crazy or Ivory-Merchant Productions' Savages, the independent, low-budget comedy Luggage Of The Gods is about a neolithic tribe living somewhere in North America and the discoveries some tribe members make when suitcases accidentally fall out of the cargo hold of a jet. As two tribal members (one just ostracized because he looked up at a passing plane) go through the various devices of modern life found in the suitcases, a new world opens up -- a least a crack. While the acting is expressive and the fake monosyllabic language passable, this film needs more than suitcases to successfully entertain for its full 78 minutes. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
