Leopold Simoneau Movies

This production of Christoph Willibald Gluck's 1762 opera Orphée et Eurydice - an adaptation of the seminal Greek myth about a young lover who must rescue his intended from the underworld - constitutes not a film of a stage play (as might be expected) but a special adaptation for Canadian television that originally aired in 1961. It stars Canadian tenor Léopold Simoneau and Pierrette Alarie as the two leads and Claire Gagnier as Amour; the Orchestra of Radio-Canada, under the baton of Otto Werner-Mueller, provides symphonic accompaniment. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi
