Sixteen years after documenting a Tibetan monk's search for the reincarnation of his recently-deceased master in The Reincarnation of Khensur Rinpoche, filmmakers Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam return to the Drepung Monastery in South India to see how the young lama is living up to the reputation of his previous incarnation. When Khensur Rinpoche died, his disciple Choenzey traveled the world to find the child who carried his master's spirit. His quest was successful, because shortly after Choenzey discovered a four year old boy who appeared to be the one, his claim was backed up by the Dalai Lama. Today that child is a twenty year old man. His spiritual instructor is a respected master named Geshe Wangchen, who also trained under Rinpoche. By focusing on the relationship between the two men who were closest to Rinpoche in his previous incarnation, Sarin and Sonam offer an intimate portrait of the young lama while effectively demystifying the Tibetan Buddhist concept of reincarnation. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
