I am a huge fan of the Futurama series. I have all 4 seasons on DVD and watch them regularly. The episodes generally manage to fit an incredible amount of intelligent humor and feeling into their 22 minutes. I was excited to see what could be done with 89! The answer, alas, was not much. The movie started slowly with a plot based around internet scammers that simply wasn't clever or funny. It continued by referencing a multitude of in-jokes and characters from the original show that didn't do much to advance the plot. It got better after about 45 minutes and toward the end actually had me laughing (thanks in part to the disappointingly late appearance of Zap Brannigan.) The writers did manage to at least provide some emotion toward the end, but overall I was disappointed. By seemingly pandering to the fans, the makers of Futurama have made a movie that, I suspect, will satisfy very few. A pity. Hopefully the next 3 films return to the roots of great, intelligent writing.

If you're a Futurama fan, you'll like this movie. Groening's writing is as good as ever..not his best but it's tough to keep it up for 90 minutes when you're used to the half hour series. Lots of inside jokes and the usual "hafta think about that one...yeah thats a good one" laughs. If you've seen "the sting" ( the Futurama episode) and liked it you'll appreciate Frys' continuing angst over Leela, and the middle parts are reminiscent of "the why of fry" type plot twists. Good side story action gives it a 4 1/2.

Hilarious movie, kids and I loved it. Bender Rodriguez my favorite next to Fry, who were the main characters in the movie. I loved the intro and the way each character is introduced and there quirks. Sort of felt like it was multiple episodes cramed together like X-men 3. I guess you could break them down into episodes and you will get the remainning half season before they were cancelled. I enjoyed the 20 or so minutes of the hypnotoad in the extras. Give it a rent you will not be disapointed.
