The only reason I can come up with as to why this was such a hit in Japan is probably the casual behind the scenes look at the life of a Maiko and Geisha. Fortunately, this portrayal of life isn't as dark as the one shown in "Memoirs of a Geisha". If you're into manga and the lives of Maiko and Geisha, you might find this movie interesting. However, for a comedy, there wasn't anything remotely funny. And the main character's overacting became annoying within the first scene. The acting, directing and set design were good. Unlike a traditional film, the style of the movie came across as a hybrid of a musical and a stage performance for an incomprehensible play. Despite the Surround audio option, the sound came across as mostly stereo. As for extras, there's three trailers for the movie, a "The Making of Maiko Haaaan!!!" featurette (23:26 min) and a trailer for another movie. Recommended only for those who grew up watching Japanese comedy shows.

I can't imagine anyone finding entertainment value in this film. It's over-acted, rediculous, and boring. Yuck! Didn't bother getting to the end. It was torture to sit half way through. Made me hungry for Ramen Noodle soup though!
