You can count on the BBC to recreate period pieces faithfully; from costumes to scenes to culture and social etiquette. Charles Dickens was determined to expose the raw side of English life and culture, using his fiction as an agent for change. Violence and cruelty make this film unsuitable for young children. Bonus to this film edition is a reading of the Sikes and Nan scene from the book, (by a Dickens impersonator,) as Dickens did when on tour in the U.S. and elsewhere.
