Jake Speed (1986)
Member Rating:
An adventure tale for movie buffs, Jake Speed deftly lifts scenes from detective films of the '40s through the '70s to bring an added dimension to its spoof of the detective and adventure genres. When a family gets word that their daughter has been kidnapped in Paris, her father comments that they should get "Jake Speed" to find her. However, Jake is a comic strip character, and the reaction is that he might as well ask for Batman. But lo-and-behold, the other daughter Margaret (Karen Kopins) gets a message to meet Speed (Wayne Crawford) and his author, Remo (Dennis Christopher), and the men tell her they must go to Africa, where her sister is being held. After a certain amount of trial and error, they eventually find the nation where she's being held -- which happens to be in the middle of a revolution. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

well, if you like 80's comedy adventures with a twist you will love it. as far as being family friendly or not, there is a very funny scene where the hero pretends to sell the girl to some white slavers, but nothing too outrageous, it reminded me most of 'romancing the stone' but like a drive-in or straight to video version it was funny and enjoyable

I was only able to last about 25 minutes and then I had to turn it off. Terrible! Not even good for kids because of subject matter and language.

This is a corny action movie in true 80's fashion. While the movie doesn't openly mock itself, it doesn't take itself very seriously. I'd recommend this movie for fans of Army of Darkness, I'm Gonna Get You Sucka, and Tango & Cash. You'll love the truck with machine guns. I think that's where Tango & Cash got the idea. Seriously, I wanted that truck!
