The acting is very good. I don't understand how anyone could fall asleep unless they were too tired already. I was rooting for Tom Cruise to win fights and Nicole's heart the whole movie. I show the Oklahoma Land Rush scene to my Am. history classes each year. This movie about Irish immigrants to America was much better in my opinion than Gangs of New York.

A respectable depiction of the hardships weathered by Irish immigrants seeking freedom and a better chance to thrive than in their homeland. My husband and I agreed the acting mostly believable, the story well put together and the feel of the film more authentic than not. Despite our disenchanted with Mr. Cruise we found ourselves cheering at the end. We recommend it. Our relatives came to the U.S. in the early 1900's from Germany and Austria for different reasons but I know well the struggles they suffered here. We're very blessed to be American, and this was a moving reminder of why many of us remain so.
