This campy series follows the wild and other-worldly adventures of the Middleman - a freelance problem solver who specializes in strange phenomena that range from the metaphysical to the intergalactic. When struggling artist Wendy is recruited to be the next Middleman - because of both her grace under pressure and her photographic memory - she finds herself the only member of this weird agency who's surprised to be dealing with such strange events as a super-intelligent ape who escapes captivity and proceeds to assassinate prominent members of the mafia. To a painter, it's stranger than fiction, but to a Middleman, it's business as usual. ~ Cammila Collar, Rovi
I guess it got cancelled before the first season was over. There are worse things on TV. I liked how campy and fun it was. Too bad it got cancelled. I think the writers were better than the concept. I liked all the little extra details they put into their scripts.
really stupid. slapstick! If you like 24 you will truly not make it through the first episode. Campy was a kind description. I will stick with Prison Break,The Wire and Alias ,dexter and Fire Fly. All great series!
It was just a normal day for jaded temp Wendy Watson, then she was attacked by a giant monster. Keeping her cool Wendy easily out-foxed the beast and watched as a mysterious man effortlessly destroyed it. Impressed by Wendy's cool headedness The Middleman, an over-the-top and campy crime fighter invites Wendy to join him in his battle against Aliens, Monsters and various comicbook villains threatening to ruin the worlds day.
And although it never got a true series finale, the story wraps up in the pages of "The Middleman: The Doomsday Armageddon Apocalypse" Graphic Novel.
This show never received the acclaim that it deserved. The humor was campy, but also covered a range from juvenile to intellectual. Where else would you hear the phrase, "My little pony!" as an interjection? I was sorry to see it cancelled, but was thrilled to relive the show on DVD.
The renter should know that disc 4 has no episodes and is just extras for those who really loved the show. The 12 episodes were in discs 1-3. There was also no commentary on any of the episodes in this disc.
My wife and I really did enjoy the show and some of the features in this "All you wanted to know about The Middleman but were afraid to ask" were mildly interesting.
As for the show itself, it stands far and way above any of the shows which pass for humor nowadays. (with the exception of The Big Bang Theory)
