Robin Swicord's adaptation of the novel The Jane Austen Book Club concerns a group of women and a man who meet regularly to discuss the works of the popular author, but soon discover their lives are playing out much like one of the author's fictional worlds. Among the members of the club are Sylvia (Amy Brenneman), a recent divorcée; Bernadette (Kathy Baker), who has decided to accept her advancing age; and Prudie (Emily Blunt), who feels guilty about her persistent fantasies of cheating on her loving husband. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

I loved this movie, and it is one of the most romantic I've seen in a while. Many interesting characters, multiple subplots and lots of cross-references to Jane Austen's six novels. I had tears in my eyes through much of the last 20 minutes once I realized that Persuasion was going to do its magic. It probably helps to have read Jane Austen or at least seen some of the movies of her books, but I don't think it's critical to enjoying the story and acting. It is certainly a chick flick but one a guy can like a lot if romantic comedies work you you.

Boring movie. The plot was not about Jane Austin. But a bunch of gals, trying to hook up an elderly women on the rebound with a younger man! Movie needs to be pulled off the shelf. There are other ways to introduce mates into a relation. The movies these days are Ludicrious .and most movies are back into the aliens/and vampires. What happened to the real feel good movies, and the major stars need to bring them back. This was a cheap movie to relay the sign of the times. No namers, don't bring in the crowds. I apologize if I offended anyone. The truth is we are willing to take a chance during this recession, is hoping people will rent, to not being bored at home. The acting is so stupid & silly, very sugary and directors are struggling to bring out the best of the best. BOOORING!!!!! like they say, "HE'S NOT THAT INTO YOU!" Also, "You can't fix STUPID!"

This was better than any of the films of the Jane Austen novels. Great ensemble acting, and all of the parts were so perfectly cast. A great story about genuine contemporary people and you could easily see how the plots of Jane's novels are so timeless and apply to people in out own time.

If you aren't already a Jane Austen fan, you soon will be after watching this. The characters in this all have their personal issues and being in the club give them the support to move through those changes. What a pleasure to walk with them in their lives.

This movie was poorly put together. The beginning is far too long and disjointed, and the plot is very unclear. I stopped watching midway, and could not put it back on. The target audience appears to be boring women over 40 who have no sense of purpose in life and need to watch movies like this one just to feel like they matter to the world. Skip this boring movie!!

I watched this movie because my wife wanted to. I didn't think I would like it, but I did. The cast is excellent. The characters are engaging. There are some quietly funny parts. All-in-all quite enjoyable.

This movie was okay, I say just okay because I started it four times before I actually sat down and watched it. Great movies I cannot pull myself away from and it was easy to pull away from this one. It was a good watch if you want an okay chick flick.
