Driven by an extravagant, tour-de-force performance by Al Pacino, Scent of a Woman is the story of Frank Slade (Pacino), a blind, retired army colonel who hires Charlie Simms (Chris O'Donnell), a poor college student on the verge of expulsion, to take care of him over Thanksgiving weekend. At the beginning of the weekend, Frank takes Charlie to New York, where he reveals to the student that he intends to visit his family, have a few terrific meals, sleep with a beautiful woman and, finally, commit suicide. The film follows the mis-matched pair over the course of the weekend, as they learn about life through their series of adventures. Though the story is a little contrived and predictable, it pulls all the right strings, thanks to O'Donnell's sympathetic supporting role and Pacino's powerful lead performance, for which he won his first Academy Award. Scent of a Woman is based on the 1975 Italian film Profumo Di Donna. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

Al Pacino is wonderful in this role - you really believed he was blind - he truly deserved an Oscar. Chris O'Donnell is good in his role - the story is a little slow until the ending scene which is superb. I enjoyed this movie and recommend it highly.

Al Pacino definitely deserved his Oscar for this role - Wow! Watching him in this movie, it's hard to remember that he's acting. Chris O'Donnell is charming and sincere. The movie's a little slow in the middle but has a fantastic ending! Definitely worth watching!

The Colonel was an interesting character and Pacino portrayed a blind person very well. I felt that the first half of the movie up to the gun incident was the best. Then I started losing interest after that.

Excellent movie, but some of the story is not for kids. If you like "Dead Poets Society" you will probably like this too. Al Pacino does an epic job with his character.

I watched this one again after seeing Heat because so much of Pacino's delivery reminded me of this charecter but this movie is not about what would happen today this is about what would have happened in my grandfather's war where men came out like this and act like this and this movie is just wonderful.

Pacino never lets me down... Every character he plays makes you forget it's actually him you're watching. This time, you'll hate him, cry for him, want to understand him and come to love him. Definitely worthwhile to see... more than once!
