As the Man of Steel prepares to reveal himself to the world and declare his longstanding love for "Daily Planet" reporter Lois Lane, an old nemesis teams with a foe of unlimited power to wreak havoc over Metropolis in this animated adventure that pits Superman against a villain the likes of which the world has never seen. A powerful computer with a special strain of kryptonite infused to his body and a hunger for world domination, Brainiac forges an unholy alliance with the dreaded Lex Luthor that aims to bring the world's most famous superhero to his knees. When a force beam originally intended to take out Superman instead blasts Lane, the race is on for the desperate hero to enter the dreaded Phantom Zone and find the cure that will restore her health. The nefarious partnership between Luthor and Brainiac takes a turn for the worse, however, when, believing The Man of Steel to have buckled under the pressure of his powerful blast, Brainiac betrays his one-time partner to strike terror into the very heart of Metropolis. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

As a fan of the animated series, I was very dissapointed in this lackluster release. I think the biggest letdown was Powers Boothe's performence as Lex Luther (absolutely horrible!). Also, despite the look of the animation, Bruce Timm wasn't involved in the production at all. Very dissapointing.

Awful on every level. The voices are wrong. Lex acts like a 60's Batman villain. Terrible dialogue. Unwatchable.

This movie premiered on Cartoon Network over the weekend, and I am glad I had the chance to watch it for free. In short the movie is copied in its style and character design as the original Superman animated series & Justice League. The voice acting for 75% of the characters are the same and that is about the extend of the similarities. The story fits in neither JL or Superman series, Lex Luthor is made into a sniviling campy fool, Mercy is a Harley Quinn wannabe, and Braniac is laughable. While watching this, I could not help but be reminded of the outline Kevin Smith pitched to Warner Bros. for a live action Superman movie (10 yrs ago before the superman series debuted) but as it was just an outline, it appeared that whoever the hack was that filled in the blanks was amatuer or all together new to the writing world. My advice: wait until it shows again on Cartoon Network, and don't buy into the Superman hysteria they are counting on to sell this piece of garbage.

Being a Superman fan and a fan of the Animated Series when it originally aired, I had hopes for this.. Sadly, I was VERY letdown. Superman and Lois are the only returning voices. The rest of them are a far cry from what they used to be. Lex is TERRIBLE in this. The animation even struck me as very ho hum. My advice, avoid at all costs.

Perhaps this movie will entertain the 10yr old and under who crave more content in the wake of the 'Returns' movie... for that age group, I say give it a try. For any older fans of the Animated Series and Justice League, this is seriously amatuer. I saw pieces on Cartoon Network, and thought I'd try it again from the start. It was worse the second time around, and I shut it off half-way. It's already in the mailbox going back. Everything the earlier posters have said is true. I don't even think it's worth a rent. Feels like the only goal in mind was to get something made in time for the movie's release. You can tell it was produced on the cheap, as it was made without chapter previews on the menu screen. Very poor showing from Warner Brothers.

Horrible. Superman, Olsen, Luthor, and Lois are all different actors, or at least sound like them. The art is exactly the same as the WB Saturday morning 90's cartoon, however the drama, plot points, or even characters from the series do not transfer over. These characters act entirety differently from anything you would expect. Luthor is turned into a campy bad joke cracking inept moron. Lois Lane is turned into a second rate reporter who complains about always being beaten to the story by Kent. She also spends more time in the movie cooing like a 12 year old girl over Superman than actually being a reporter. Her entire reporting repertoire in the movie are jumping in a car and tearing off very fast. Braniac is far from menacing in this movie. Superman at least acts like superman should, and he does have a dilemma about letting Lois know about his powers.

I am only being nice with the score because the movie was not a total loss. I am disappointed on the choice for the Lex Luther character. Lex Luther is a mean, uncaring, selfish person. Here they made him seem like a comedian. I could not take the character seriously. Also, the voice of Brainiac sounded like someone who watched to many old Transformer cartoons. I swore I was listening to Soundwave.

-is that they'll give you such a low expectation. Just kidding, folks. But be sure to read a few to learn that this doesn't take place in the Superman Cartoon series that was on television. They used the same materials, which was probably a mistake. They obviously did it to save money. The backgrounds, and action are very good. Luthor is the character most out of place. But the others are actually quite nice. The cartoon series didn't give you much of Jimmy, Lois, and Clark, all interacting. The characters interacting was the thing I enjoyed most(or the fights... whichever). The movie does drag though.

This movie made no sense! The portrayal of Lex was so bad that I couldn't even enjoy the action scenes. It was a wasted rental. It looks like the Superman-JLA shows, but can, in no stretch of the imagination be part of that storyline. Lex was depicted as a two-bit villain with no intelligence, backbone, or memory of previous encounters with Brainiac. First off, Superman blasts Brainiac with his heat-vision. Brainiac is knocked down and Superman turns to leave and comments on his easy victory, as though he had no idea how difficult Brainiac is to kill. Later Brainiac tries to steal all the knowledge of Krypton from the Fortress of Solitude computer. This makes no sense because Brianic was the main computer on Krypton with all the knowledge thereof. Superman has very limited information of Krypton and he certainly doesn't have a "bat-computer" in his fortress. This is even worse than Jon Steward as GL and the makers should be sued.
