Lauren Weisberger's best-selling novel about a young woman who stumbles into the hectic worlds of high fashion and publishing comes to the big screen in this comedy. Andrea "Andy" Sachs (Anne Hathaway) is a bright young woman from the Midwest who has just graduated from college and wants to work as a magazine writer. Andy has applied for a job at "Runway," America's most prestigious fashion journal; though Andy has little to no interest in the garment trade, they are one of the only magazines in New York with a job opening -- second assistant to editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). As Andy quickly learns, Miranda is a diva with plenty of power within the magazine business and she isn't afraid to use it, and though Andy lands the job (primarily by being in the right place at the right time), she soon learns that working for Miranda could test the patience of a saint thanks to her endless demands and refusal to acknowledge the end of a work day. Andy struggles to hold on to the job and her sanity, knowing that a recommendation from Miranda can open nearly any door at any magazine, but can she handle the pressure without losing her mind along the way? The Devil Wears Prada also stars Stanley Tucci, Emily Blunt, and Adrian Grenier. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
Not bad for an evening's entertainment, but overall it is a very predictable story from beginning to end. Meryl Streep is cast wonderfully in her role and Hathaway is beautiful and engaging, but I really yawned through most of it.
This is, for me, probably Meryl Streep's best film ever. However, as I watched it, I felt like I was watching a soap opera at some points. I gave this movie three stars because it is funny due to Meryl Streep's character. Even Anne Hathaway's character is funny, but there is plently of what I call "talking scenes" in this movie, meaning scenes where they just talk. I want to laugh. My favorite parts were the seemingly impossible tasks Streep's character had Hathaway's character do. All in all, if you could get past the fact that it has the "soap opera" taste to it, then you will enjoy it. It is a family film (there is no cursing or scenes that would offend a child under the age of 10). The best scene is the final scene, so you have to watch for that. I will not say what happens. I hope you enjoy the movie if you decide to rent/buy/stream it.
I had a hard time getting into this movie. Anne Hathaway is a brillant actress but I am sorry I just don't care too much for her, at least for a starring role. Very well acted by all, especially Meryl Streep!
This movie was OK. Cute story. I have to agree with other reviews that insisting that a Size 6 is HUGE is troubling. I wonder if that might have an impression on a young girl watching this. Anne Hathaway is cute and endearing.
Good first hour, after that it drags, ending is very predicatible and defeats the purpose of the movie since she should've/could've done that from day one!
movie was geared to a younger audience but had adult topics that weren't appropriate. Anne Hathaways character has a 1 night stand with that loser and never tells her boyfriend and then makes it seem as though she showed everybody. Movies aren't responsble for teaching morality but pitch it to a slightly older audience that isn't so influential.
