James Bond-flick director Guy Hamilton helmed this episodic, all-star World War II film. With Sir Laurence Olivier heading up an ensemble cast as flight commander Sir Hugh Dowdling, The Battle of Britain pays tribute to other nationalities instrumental in fending off the waves of Luftwaffe planes, notably the expatriate Polish and Czech pilots. Trevor Howard, Michael Caine, and Michael Redgrave also populate the cast. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The movie's aerial sequences are great and I couldn't believe they could come up with so many warbirds to make the picture, especially the German Heinkels... great stars as well, but I love the planes!
The cast of England's greatest actors is a rare treat to see.The aerial shots are beautiful just for the vintage German and English planes and the photography in general is one of reasons to see this film. The re-mastered print done in Blu-ray is the jaw dropper. If you have forgotten what the old brilliant Technicolor was like this will dazzle your eyes.
This is the best of all the aerial combat films. The vintage planes, etc.make you feel that all the shots were actual newsreels. It didn't hurt to have a top-notch cast. The RAF was amazing!!
One of the best war films ever produced on a subject not covered by the film industry. Incredible work must of been done to produce the backdrops, scenery, and realistic air battles. The aircraft were a joy to watch.
A great ensemble of stars. Well done historical drama which accurately portrays Britains resistance to Nazi assaults when Britain stood alone and the Germans had conqured all of Europe.
Excellent from a historical standpoint and a real treat for anyone interested in militry aviation. Extremely well done segments of aerial combat and well acted. Should be required viewing for anyone studying the history of WW II.
Magnificent production values, with massive vistas, superb dogfights, and an all star cast. If it had a more involving script--it would have been a true classic.
