I Love this Doc. It's by far one of the best out there besides " I like Killing Flies"

TBH, I hadn't heard of Daniel Johnston till I heard about this movie - but the trailers looked interesting so I wanted to see this. Sadly, the trailers were more enjoyable as a whole than the movie. As a film this is only "OK". The timing is splotchy, the multitude of splices from Daniel's own (supposedly) film collection is boring, and the final 25 minutes I almost fell asleep during twice. As a documentary however, it's beautifully tragic. Watching someone self-destruct in such a profound way, yet continually make such wonderous art, is both awe inspiring and eerily deterministic. If Daniel's life were not so interesting in-and-of itself this movie would be a waste, but since truth is stranger (and more entertaining) than fiction, I in the end enjoyed this movie and was happy Daniel's life got its due.

Super film- a voice like Dylan and a real artist on top of it. His psyche and the life events seem surreal. He is touring in Europe now (Nov. 08). Songs are very personal--a la James Taylor but not that voice. Many artists have used his works. You will be intriqued by this movie. A definite see.
