Millennium: Season 01 (1996)
Member Rating:
Season one of Millennium begins as ex-FBI agent Frank Black (Lance Henriksen) moves from Washington, D.C., to the state of Washington -- specifically, his home town of Seattle. Gifted with the psychic power to "see" through the eyes of violent criminals and thereby anticipate their next moves, Frank uses this talent on behalf of the Millennium Group, an apparently benevolent organization dedicated to rooting out serial killers and preparing humankind for the possible Apocalypse; Millennium employee Peter Watts (Terry O'Quinn) serves as Frank's contact. Our hero also volunteers as a criminal profiler to help his friend Bob Bletcher (Bill Smitrovich), a Seattle homicide detective. Meanwhile, Frank's wife, Catherine (Megan Gallagher), counsels trauma patients and crime victims, while their daughter, Jordan (Brittany Tiplady), is just beginning to show signs that she has inherited her dad's psychic gift. Most of the crimes Frank helps to solve during season one are standard murders and other such "traditional" violent acts. But when his friend Bob is killed by a woman who may have been possessed by demons, Frank turns his attentions toward supernatural phenomena, dedicating himself to battling a "greater evil" than mere criminality. Also, Frank begins to get inklings that the Millennium Group is not all that it seems to be...and that he might end up battling the group as well. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Hands down the first season was some of the best television created. Ahead of it's time. Chris Carter hit gold a second time around with this show. With Frank Spotniz (also from the x-files) and a great team of writers and directors they created an engaging thought provoking (yet horrific) world and Lance Henriksen brought a character to life making him truly origional. Great acting all around. Unfortunately Chris Carter handed the show over to Glen morgan and James Wong for the second season. And while they were great with the X-files, and I loved all their episodes on that show. They completely revamped Millenium for it's second season (though, Fox might also be to blame for that) making it more like the X-file conspiracy theme and not at all like the evil in the first season. The evil in the first season was far more realistic and terrifying. by the second season not so much.

I love to watch scripted serial drama's like X files and Jericho, Lost, etc. This one I rented disc one and two but won't continue. I love Chris Carter who did the X files but this one was just a little too macarbe for me and couldn't really get into the characters. I sent back disc two without watching. Acting was good, if you like serial killer stuff, you will probably really like it, I am just more of an X file alien girl :)

I started watching this series with great expectations. After all Lance Heriksen of the Alien and Training day fame was the main character and I have always considered a great actor, whose acting has been underrated and under appreciated. Unfortunately, the hype surrounding the series (at least season 1 which I have seen) has been over rated. The plots are often thin, other times plain boring and after the first few episodes some cases shift away from the main character to his wife [social worker]. His supposed 'seer' powers get stale fast and do not add much to the value of the thin plots. There is a British series called WIRE IN THE BLOOD that does a much better job than Millennium in using plot lines with strange characters and twists. I am not sure if I will be able to muster the courage to order season 2; though the fact that this series ran for so many seasons seems to imply that the later season's much have had a higher value added to keep this thing going.
