Half n half for me. Some very decent martial arts/stunts and the lead actor is charismatic enough. Some of the shots and direction are quite good and then in other places it feels like a cheesy 80s flick. The white bad guys especially feel super 80s and I didn't buy for a minute that they were martial arts experts as shown in the climax. Maybe Gareth Evans was going for that 80s homage, but it felt off balance to me. Good effort, mediocre martial arts film, B movie territory. The Raid, from this director, is a big step forward for him.

Had a very slow start, but once the action started it was unending and was very good. Only thing wrong was the sub-titles which kept it from getting a 5 star review.
