A fascinating documentary that describes the Nazis systematic looting of artworks from museums and private collections and the efforts of the Resistance to protect the artwork. Of particular interest are details about Rose Valland, the heroic French curator who secretly recorded as much as possible of the more than 20,000 pieces of art funneled through the Nazi's central art sorting depot in Paris. Unknown by the Germans, Valland understood German and for years she kept track of where in Germany the artworks were shipped and risked her life to provide information to the French Underground about railroad shipments of art so that they would not mistakenly blow up the trains loaded with France's priceless treasures.
