More of a drama than a horror movie. Well made and entertaining with some pretty good effects. Not like the werewolves in Underworld and Dog Soldiers. Real wolves were used for all the carnage. Pretty good story and some cool scenes of chewed up victims. Better than most werewolf movies. The naked big guy running thru the forest is sure to stay with you for awhile! (More than I wanted to see....)

This movie tells a more intelligent and intriguing tale than the cover art and description suggest. Purportedly based on a true story of a serial killer from the 1850s who claimed he was a werewolf as a kind of insanity defense, the movie has two werewolves, one who fights the wolf instinct, and the other who is wolfish even when in his charming human form. More of a thriller than a horror movie, it kept me interested all the way through.

The other reviewers are right, the title and art cover are misleading; there are no over-the-top giant monster werewolves with machine guns. This is not your typical action horror/serial killer slasher flick, though there's still plenty of gruesome gore. It's an interesting tragic historical piece set in old Europe, beautiful cinematography. Has one of the best wolf to man transformation scenes. Julian Sands plays a complex psychopath, John Sharian is one messed-up, tormented werewolf hunter, and Elsa Pataky looks delicious, especially bathing, unknowingly, with soap made from her dead sisters. Yeah, this is one deep, dark, twisted unique horror flick.
