This program chronicles the adventures of the Viking explorer Lief Ericsson. Nordic tradition has long maintained that Ericsson visited the New World centuries before Christopher Columbus. Today, the mythic tales about the Vikings are being substantiated by modern scientists. Recently, archeologist Anne Ingatad discovered the site of Vinland, long said to be where Ericsson and his men built their outpost in North America. The ruins of Vinland are in present day Newfoundland, and tell much about their builders. I'm pretty sure this movie was extracted from "The Vikings In America" DVD and/or "Viking Explorer" DVD. Same people interviewed saying the same things as were on this movie. Still, very informative about Leif Ericssen and his father, Eric the Red. Columbus gets credit for "discovering America" because he had incredible financial backing, and lots of men and ships to come. Leif only lasted 5-10 years at the Vinland area (ie: Newfoundland) and was at the mercy of many severe Indian attacks - - and therefore, returned back to Greenland after the years he and his congregation settled in Vinland. Overall, good movie with nice overviews of the Greenland Sagas (oral Viking stories put into words a few hundred years after the Viking Age.)
