I thought that this made for tv version was closer to the book, then the original by stanley kubrick.

I agree with Michelle, it is closer to the version of the book which makes this one unique, but of course the original shining movie is a 5 star film, this was pretty good too, acting was good, and still had a creepy feeling to it.....Enjoy.

So the beauty of this remake is the story behind the scenes. Namely, this version of the movie was filmed at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park Colorado. The Stanley is recognized as one of the most haunted hotels in America, and it was this hotel that inspired the story of the Shining. Stephen King was staying in room 217 (known as the most haunted room of the hotel). He was one of the last guests on the last days of the season before the hotel would be closed for the winter. King really wanted this film to be made at the Stanley and is said to have been disappointed that Kubrick set the film somewhere else. If you're ever in CO, go check it out. The hotel is beautiful. The movie was fun, but it's Kubricks version that is played on loop at the hotel 24/7.
