The Sharpe Series, in total, is a hit. This particular movie starts it off and does so with a very good mix of action, romance, and intrigue. Its a classic story of a man in the right place at the right time and accurately depicts the historical events that unfold around it as well as the conditions that the men lived in at the time.
The Sharpe series is like a male romance novel. Equal parts action and romance.
Officer Sharpe is like Captain Kirk: Every episode, each finds beautiful women in unlikely places. Napoleanic battlefields for Sharpe. Uncharted planets for Kirk.
However, Sean Bean's a great actor. The stories move well. It seems historically accurate. Best of all, it's got guns and
horses.
I highly recommend the Sharpe's Movies. It is a good blend of history, action, and romance. I've watched nearly all of the Sharpe's movies now, they are definately worth the time.
