Zubin Mehta in Rehearsal
This documentary examines acclaimed conductor Zubin Mehta and his orchestra as they rehearse for a performance of Richard Strauss' Till Eulen spiegels Lustige Streiche. Mehta has held the title of music director for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. Director Peter Berggren captures the creative process that makes a Zubin Mehta production successful. At this time, Mehta was musical director for life of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, a position that he gave up most of his other full time positions to take on. Mehta, who was the first conductor to hold the title of music director for two North American orchestras at the same time, leads the Philharmonic on the well-known Strauss piece that was unofficially banned in Israel. ~ Dennis Proctor, All Movie Guide
