The Who: Who's Next
Part of the Classic Album series, this documentary details the process by which the Who created 1971's outstanding Who's Next album. Featuring insider information, such as how the final mixes were worked out, the documentary also explains that the songs on the album were initially written to be part of an ambitious interactive theater piece called Lifehouse, which never quite coalesced. Songwriter, guitarist, and singer Pete Townshend, bassist John Entwistle, and vocalist Roger Daltrey provide insight into the history of the project, as do interviews with managers, press agents, and writers, including biographer Dave Marsh. The program includes archival footage of the band performing tracks such as "I Can't Explain" and "My Generation" as well as a tribute to drummer Keith Moon who died in 1978. ~ Steve Blackburn, All Movie Guide
