The first season of Spike TV's reality series The Ultimate Fighter finds 16 of the nation's best mixed fighters vying for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Eight of these are Light Heavyweights, and eight are Middleweights, divided into two teams and coached by past UFC winners Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell. "Team Couture" includes Light Heavyweights Stephen Bonnar, Christopher Sanford, Lodune Sincaid and Mike Swick, and Middleweights Alex Karalexis, Chris Leben, Nathan Quarry and Jason Thacker. "Team Liddell" includes Light Heavyweights Forrest Griffin, Sam Hoger, Alex Schoenauer and Bobby Southworth, and Middleweights Kenny Florian, Josh Koscheck, Josh Rafferty, Diego Sanchez. One by one, the contestants square off in a series of boxing, kickboxing and martial arts rounds at the UFC's traditional stamping grounds, the Octagon. The festivities conclude with a 2 1/2 hour "Ultimate Finale" in Las Vegas, featuring the finalists--the first time this UFC events has been telecast on free over-the-air TV.
