The Rake's Progress
Two of the world's most gifted classical vocalists, Dawn Upshaw and Jerry Hadley, star in this production of Igor Stravinsky's opera, inspired by William Hogarth's cycle of paintings. Artist Tom Rakewell (Hadley) is in love with his favorite model, Anne (Upshaw), but in time, his obsessions begin leading him into a madness that he cannot escape. Staged by director Peter Mussbach and designer Jorg Immendorff, this version of The Rake's Progress was taped live at the Salzburg Festival, with the accompaniment of the Camerata Academica. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
