The Acoustic Guitar of Jorma Kaukonen, Vol. 1
Jorma Kaukonen is a rock guitar legend whose style has been heavily influenced by such blues giants as Blind Blake, Rev. Gary Davis, and Big Bill Broonzy. He is still remembered for his contributions to the San Francisco rock scene of the 1960s. Students who watch this video can learn more about Kaukonen's own fingerpicking style as he provides tips on open tunings, right-hand picking, and use of the slide. Kaukonen also teaches four of his own pieces, taking the time to explain the various chords in great detail. These songs include "Crystal City," "Embryonic Journey," and "West Coast Blues." The use of camera close-ups and split screens allows viewers to carefully follow along. Kaukonen and his former Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna bandmate Jack Casady appear in a special added segment to show students how two players collaborate when developing a song together. ~ Elizabeth Smith, All Movie Guide
