Per its title, the documentary series Test Pilots discusses the lives, roles and accomplishments of the men and women in America who test-fly state-of-the-art aircraft, putting their safety on the line as they push the vehicles to undreamt-of extremes. The volume in this series entitled Spin Doctor visits United States Navy Test Pilot Rob Niewhoner, who climbs into a 50,000 pound F/A-18 Super Hornet, rockets into the sky, and deliberately forces the vehicle into a state of "spin control" - forcing it beyond the boundaries of human control to determine if it can be safely recovered.
