Sublime: Stories, Tales, Lies & Exaggerations
Formed in 1988, Sublime were a ska-punk band from Long Beach, California who rose from tiny local gigs to become a major attraction on the California club circuit. However, just as Sublime were poised to release their third album, widely expected to be their commercial breakthrough, lead singer Brad Nowell died of a drug overdose in May, 1996. Ironically, Nowell's death helped to attract attention to the album, which became a huge hit despite the band breaking up following Nowell's passing. Sublime: Stories, Tales, Lies & Exaggerations is a documentary about the band (produced with their participation) that takes a look at their lives both on and off stage, featuring plenty of performance footage ranging from small private shows to their stint on the 1995 Vans Warped Tour. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
