Simply Red: Stars
While Simply Red's 1985 debut album Picture Book immediately established them as a group with talent, potential, and audience appeal, their great breakthrough came with the 1991 set Stars. Folding more contemporary R&B influences into the group's soul-based sound, Stars also found vocalist Mick Hucknall reaching a new peak as a songwriter, and the result was an album that confirmed their status as superstars in the U.K., spending 19 weeks at the top of the British album charts. Simply Red: Stars is a documentary in the Classic Albums series which offers an in-depth look at the making of the album, featuring interviews with Hucknall and his bandmates, producer Stewart Levine, and others in the band's inner circle. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
