Each year, over 4000 tourists visit the Pennsylvania site where George Washington reshaped the bedraggled Continental Army into a formidable fighting force that went on to win the Revolutionary War. In this release, armchair travelers are invited to explore the ongoing excavations, see how the buildings are being preserved for future generations, and discover how satellite studies are now able to help historians learn more about this site than ever before. It was over two centuries ago that Prussian Drill Sergeant Baron Friedrich Von Steuben attempted to remake the army, only to see his soldiers succumb to disease, cold, and starvation. Today, the preservationists attempting to maintain the site face serious challenges.
