The six-part made-for-television Artists' Specials Series is an entertaining and educational collection of children's films. Programs focus on a significant segment of an artist's life. Biographical information is mixed with fiction to create compelling stories reflecting turning points in the lives of revered art world figures. In Rembrandt: Fathers and Sons, children are introduced to one of the world's great masters and renowned portrait artist, the 17th century Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn. The film was shot in the town of Telc in Moravia, where buildings are reminiscent of those of Rembrandt's time in Amsterdam. It re-creates the period of the artist's height of success. The story centers on Rembrandt's desire to reinvent portraiture and the people who influenced his ideas. Other videos in the series include Mary Cassatt: American Impressionist, Degas and the Dancer, and Monet: Shadow and Light. The highly acclaimed series is designed for youngsters age eight and older. ~ Sally Barber, All Movie Guide
