Pinetop Perkins: Born in the Honey
Chicago blues legend Pinetop Perkins - well into his ninth decade at the time of production - is the subject of the documentary Pinetop Perkins: Born in the Honey. As shot by Peter Carlson (Don't Start Me Talking: The Junior Wells Story), this biographical portrait sheds a light on Perkins's vast musical contributions and tells the story of his long life journey, incorporating incisive interviews with Bobby Rush, Kim Wilson, Ike Turner and others. As an added bonus, this release also includes an audio recording of Perkins. The first 9 tracks (of 10) feature Perkins and band members Willie 'Big Eyes' Smith, Robert 'Bob' Stroger and 'Little' Frank Krokowski jamming live in Chicago; selections include: "How Long Blues," "Down in Mississippi," "Perkins Boogie," "Kansas City" and "Mojo." Perkins recorded the final selection on that album, "Rather Quit Her than Hit Her" at a studio in Tempe, Arizona. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
