Our Own Private Bin Laden
Samira Goetschel's documentary Our Own Private Bin Laden examines the frightening connection between international political decisions during and in the immediate aftermath of the Cold War and the rise of international terrorist networks. More specifically, it discusses how the political landscape allowed Al-Qaeda to flourish, unchecked, and enabled Osama Bin Laden to build his own corporate empire. Throughout, Goetschel explores the insidious connections between deregulation, privatization, the free-market economy, and the transcontinental spread of terrorism. What emerges over the course of the film is a portrait of innumerable poor political decisions from the years 1945 on that directly paved the way for Al-Qaeda, and the crushing burden of Western accountability that this entails. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
