Most Honorable Son
The tale of 1940s USAF aerial gunner Benjamin Kuroki rends one's heart as it pays homage to one man's deep-seated feelings of patriotism and national loyalty. During the Second World War, Kuroki enlisted with the U.S. Army to fight in the Pacific against Japan - as a Japanese-American soldier. Given this ethnic identity, Kuroki's political stance represented an incredibly difficult and uncomfortable one. He immediately realized the necessity of surmounting overwhelming prejudice and bigotry of his military colleagues (to say nothing of his fellow countrymen) in the fight against totalitarianism. Nevertheless, Kuroki consistently evinced his own unswerving belief in the American cause. Via moving, telling archival footage and interviews, the PBS documentary Most Honorable Son tells Kuroki's story. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
