Cult filmmaker Hisayasu Sato returned to a more horrific strain of pinku-eiga with this bloody softcore tale concerning the results of a new anaesthetic capable of turning pain into pleasure, with greater levels of pain heightening the sexual kick. Three young women act as guinea pigs for the experiment, with two becoming so excited that they engage in gruesome acts of self-mutilation. The motives of the third contain the story's more perverse revelations. This remake of Sato's own 1987 film Boko Honban contains one of the most appalling scenes in Japanese horror, with a young woman mutilating and eating her own body.
