Madeleine Martin

Madeleine Martin

An actress with performing in her blood, Madeleine Martin gravitated to dramatic roles as early as her seventh year, when she began turning critics' and audience members' heads with a role opposite heavyweight Richard Chamberlain in a Broadway revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein's The Sound of Music (1998-1999). Meanwhile, Martin aggressively trained in ballet on the side, where her accomplishments included dancing at such venues as Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts with the New York City Ballet; to the surprise of no one, she ultimately gained acceptance to the prestigious School of American Ballet. In 2003, Martin dazzled theatergoers once more with her portrayal of Joe in the Broadway revival of Peter Nichols' play A Day in the Death of Joe Egg -- to such a degree that the producers of that year's Tony Awards recruited her as the youngest presenter in the history of the ceremony. She segued into filmed entertainment in the years that followed, initially on a much different note, by voicing JoJo on the Disney Channel's animated series JoJo's Circus, then by essaying guest roles on television series programs including Law & Order, Hope & Faith, and Law & Order: SVU. Martin attained one of her most enduring reputations, however, as Becca, the emotionally distanced daughter of novelist Hank Moody (David Duchovny) on the Showtime series Californication (2007). ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
