Something of a musician's musician, country-folk singer-songwriter-guitarist Steve Goodman left an indelible impression on the contemporary music scene from the early 1970s through the 1980s. In 1982, however, the press revealed a despairing truth at the core of Goodman's life: he had contracted leukemia in 1969, at age 21. By the age of 36, Goodman was dead. On November 13, 1997, over 4,200 fans, followers, and colleagues of Goodman gathered at the Medinah Temple in the Windy City to pay homage to Goodman, with a tribute concert where the performers included Jackson Browne, Emmylou Harris, Iris Dement, Arlo Guthrie, Todd Snider, John Prine and many others.
