Landmarks of Western Art, Vol. 3: Baroque to Neoclassicism
This documentary is a history of European art and its expanded possibilities after the Renaissance. Baroque art, ornate in character, was prevalent in the 17th and first half of the 18th century. It was supplanted by the neoclassical movement, from about 1750 until the mid-19th century, which originated in Britain, France, Italy, and Germany before spreading throughout the rest of Europe and into Russia, then on to the Americas. The art of this period was heavily influenced by the art of classical antiquity. This film celebrates great achievements in the art of the times by such masters as Rembrandt, Rubens, Frans Hals, Velázquez, and Caravaggio. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, All Movie Guide
