Jeremy Akerman traveled one of the most unusual roads into showbusiness in memory; born in Alvechurch, England, he moved to Canada and began his professional life not onstage or in front of movie cameras but in politics, as a leader of the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party. Akerman commenced film roles in the early 1990s, with a series of Canadian and U.S. productions.
