African American musical demigod Isaac Hayes - the progenitor of 'Hot Buttered Soul' and the man who set Shaft to music - gained renewed popularity in the 1990s and 2000s, largely as a TV and film star (I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut).
