Harold Young

Oregon-born director Harold Young began as an editor in the early '20s, and became the supervising editor of Paramount Pictures' European productions, before going to work for Alexander Korda in the early '30s. He began his directorial career splendidly, with the costume drama The Scarlet Pimpernel (1934), with Leslie Howard, for Korda, but after returning to America he found only routine assignments at Paramount and Universal, making B-pictures at the latter such as Little Tough Guy (1939) and The Mummy's Tomb (1942). His most widely seen work other than The Scarlet Pimpernel was in the live-action sequences of Disney's The Three Caballeros (1945), and the low-budget horror movie Jungle Captive (1945) has a small cult following. ~ Bruce Eder, All Movie Guide
