Green Day: Critical Review - American Idiot
The DVD issue Green Day Critical Review -- American Idiot represents something of an unofficial companion piece to Green Day's Bullet in a Bible -- unofficial in the sense that Critical Review has not been officially authorized by the band or its representation. Review, like its predecessor, examines the band during its 2005 world tour promoting its seventh album, the 2004 Who- and Queen-influenced rock opera, American Idiot. But instead of primarily functioning as a direct concert film laden with interviews -- as does Bullet -- Critical Review, as its title suggests, relies on interviews with industry insiders to evaluate just how and why American Idiot became a phenomenon that turned the music industry onto its head and sent record sales soaring. Per the disc's intention, only snippets of songs from Idiot are included here, including the title track, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "Holiday," "Wake Me Up When September Ends," and "Jesus of Suburbia," among others. This disc will appeal to those unfamiliar with Green Day who are curious about the band's resounding success, and to hardcore fans as well, thus covering a broad cross-section of audiences. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
