Cry of the Wild
Documentary filmmaker/naturalist Bill Mason turns his attention to the bear family in Cry of the Wild. At great personal risk, Mason spent several months in the wilderness, filming bears in their natural environs. Told in a seasonal fashion, the film's scenario details the hunting, hibernating and mating habits of its subjects, concluding with the birth of several cubs. Happily, Mason allows most of the images to speak for themselves, avoiding the corny, gee-gosh narration of Disney's wildlife documentaries. A further example of the Bill Mason ouevre is his 1985 canoeing feature, Waterwalker. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
