Chris Farlowe: At Rockpalast
Chris Farlowe is something of an insider's legend on the British Invasion circuit, launching himself from an unknown skiffle player to tremendous critical acclaim but lackluster sales as a blue-eyed soul rocker in the mid-sixties, but hitting his second wind not long after thanks to the efforts of Rolling Stones establisher Andrew 'Loog' Oldham. Farlowe then rocketed to prominence, if not megastardom, with a series of successful albums on the Immediate label; including 1968's Paint it Farlowe, 1969's The Last Goodbye and 1970's From Here to Mamma Rosa. After an early seventies car accident and moderately successful pairings with such bands as Atomic Rooster, Farlowe bounced back with full force as a solo performer, in the eighties and nineties, thanks to the efforts of friend Jimmy Page. He then issued a series of fine LPs including 1988's Born Again and 1996's Lonesome Road. The concert film Chris Farlowe: At Rockpalast finds the sixty-six year old rocker Farlowe performing live, before an enthusiastic crowd, at Rockpalast in Bonn, Germany on March 22, 2006. The fifteen tracks include such numbers as: "Out of Time," "I Don't Want to Sing the Blues No More," "I'll Sing the Blues for You," "Piece of Mind," "Lovin' Arms," "Rock 'n' Roll Soldier," and nine more. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
