This is the first full-length animated feature by a Chinese director, and uses typically Chinese colors in recounting stories dating from the time of the nearly legendary Shang Dynasty (1000 BCE). Gods and monsters proliferate in stories in which the Yellow Emperor, who resides in the Fifth Heaven, is monarch.
