Charles Haas

Charles Haas

A Brooklyn-born screenwriter and actor who sometimes appeared in the films he wrote, Charles Haas scripted such popular features as Tex and Gremlins 2: The New Batch. He broke into films by collaborating with Tim Hunter on the 1979teen-rebel classic Over the Edge, which also helped launch the career of emerging actor Matt Dillon. Three years later, Haas wrote and had a small role in Tex, another Dillon vehicle. He shared the writing credit -- and had another bit role -- in 1990s Gremlins 2: The New Batch. Considered by many to be even better than the original, Gremlins 2 was a box-office hit. Haaslater served as a screenwriter and story author for the 1992 satire Matinee. Though it quickly faded in theaters, the film became a cult favorite following its release on home video. In 1994, he wrote the made-for-TV comedy drama Runaway Daughters. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
