André Engel directed this October 2005 production of Paul Hindemith's 1926 gothic opera Cardillac at the Opéra de Paris-Bastille. The work concerns an expert jeweler who murders his clients to retrieve the gems he created for them. Alan Held essays the title role; the supporting cast includes Angela Denoke, Charles Workman and Roland Bracht.
