Brigitte et Brigitte
Once upon a time, in this late example of the French New Wave Style by first-time director Luc Moullet, there were two girls named Brigitte who came from the provinces to go to school in Paris. There, they became friends, lost their countrified accents, became incredibly sophisticated, and lost their virginity pleasantly. As their story is told, French neo-Puritanism, the school system and many more cultural institutions come under fire. The girls' story unfolds in a free-wheeling way which may leave some loose ends lying about, but all-in-all, this art-house feature opened to a favorable (if modest) welcome by the critics. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
